Klasztor minorytów

According to the chronicle of the Beneš Minority, the Beneš Minorite Convent was founded in 1247 by the provost of the Old Boleslav chapter, Tobias of Benešov. Tobiáš was to dedicate to the new community the family seat of the Benešovice family, which stood on a promontory above the present-day town, now called Karlov. Only the remains of the pentagonal chancel with two Gothic windows and the remains of the cloisters have survived.

In 1294, the convent and the whole town burnt down and Tobias' successor Milota of Dědice had the monastery building rebuilt and enlarged. At that time, a new refectory (common monastic dining room), dormitory (common monastic bedroom) and chapter hall were built.

On 19 May 1420, Žižek's troops burnt down the Minorite convent, but they could not damage it so much that it could not serve as a refuge for the provincial assemblies after basic repairs. Two congresses were held here: the first in 1451 and the second in 1473 with the participation of Queen Joan.

Much greater destruction befell the site in later years, when the abandoned buildings gradually deteriorated due to the weather. The destruction was finally completed by the Swedes, who burned the remains of the monastery again in 1648. The monastery was never rebuilt.
